PVC Pipe Repair | Tech-Bond 's Tech Patch Repair System (TPRS™)

TPRS™ for PVC Water and Wastewater Pipe Repair
PVC pipe is widely used in water and wastewater systems because of its corrosion resistance, durability, and long service life. When localized cracks, holes, or other damage occur, however, replacing a section of pipe can require shutdowns, excavation, cutting, and significant labor. The Tech Patch Repair System (TPRS™) provides an alternative designed to repair the damaged area while leaving the existing pipe in service. Using Tech-Bond’s Polymer Bonding Process™ and PTFE-coated E-glass fabric, TPRS™ creates a conforming, reinforced repair around the damaged PVC pipe. For water and wastewater applications within Tech-Bond’s recommended chemical exposure range of pH 4.0–10.5, TPRS™ offers a practical repair-rather-than-replace solution that can reduce downtime, labor, and the cost associated with conventional pipe replacement.

PVC + PTFE-Coated E-Glass: One Possible IIE™ Solution
Combining PVC with PTFE-coated E-glass fabric is one example of how Intelligent Interface Engineering™ (IIE) can be used to develop a solution to an industrial problem. In this application, the existing PVC provides the base structure while PTFE-coated E-glass fabric provides conforming reinforcement around the damaged area. Commercial TPRS™ applications use a minimum of two layers of PTFE-coated E-glass fabric, providing additional reinforcement and repair integrity. More importantly, this illustrates the broader purpose of IIE: instead of asking a single material or conventional adhesive to solve every problem, IIE examines the materials, their interfaces, movement, thermal behavior, chemical exposure, mechanical stresses, and operating environment, and then develops a formulation appropriate for that specific application. PVC and PTFE-coated E-glass represent just one possible combination. As additional materials and interfaces are evaluated, IIE has the potential to provide solution paths for many difficult industrial problems and become a major problem-solving platform for applications where conventional joining and repair methods are inadequate.
Have a PVC Repair Problem? Let’s Develop the Right Solution.
Every repair application is different. Pipe material, damage, pressure, temperature, movement, chemical exposure, and operating environment can all affect the appropriate repair design. Intelligent Interface Engineering™ (IIE) gives Tech-Bond a framework for evaluating those variables and developing a solution for difficult repair and joining problems. If you have a damaged PVC pipe—or an industrial application where conventional repair methods have not worked—contact Tech-Bond and tell us about the problem. We’ll help determine whether TPRS™ or another IIE-based solution is appropriate for your application.

Repair the Damage. Preserve the Pipe. Engineer the Solution.
PVC pipe was selected because it provides durability, corrosion resistance, and long service life. Localized damage does not necessarily mean that the entire pipe or system needs to be replaced. TPRS™ provides a repair-rather-than-replace approach, using Tech-Bond’s Polymer Bonding Process™ and, for commercial applications, a minimum of two layers of PTFE-coated E-glass fabric to reinforce the damaged area. But PVC repair also demonstrates something larger. Through Intelligent Interface Engineering™ (IIE), materials can be selected and combined according to the specific demands of an application rather than relying on a single material to solve every problem. As Tech-Bond continues to develop and validate these engineered interfaces, IIE™ provides a pathway toward solving increasingly difficult repair, joining, protection, and material-interface problems across industries.
A New Repair Capability for Plumbing Professionals
Tech Patches give plumbers and service professionals an additional way to repair cracked, leaking or damaged PVC and copper pipes when replacement would be difficult, disruptive or expensive. The best example of this occurred in Florida. A drain line from a school was leaking. The leak was in the middle of the roots of a large tree. The contractor contacted Tech-Bond. He purchased a Tech Patch Kit, applied a patch (a patch not a wrap) to PVC and tested it at 120 psi for a week. When there was no signs of failure, he applied the patch to fix the leak. That was seven years ago in 2019. Still holding.
If you are a plumber and interested, you should purchase a mini pack. A purchase of a Tech-Bond Mini-Pack provides the materials, information and ongoing technical support needed to add pipe and tank repair (for PVC, copper, cement, etc) as a profitable service capability. Your cost per repair will range from $10 t0 $30. Repair suitability should always be evaluated for the pipe’s pressure, contents, condition and applicable code.
