A New Engineering Discipline for Understanding, Engineering, and Optimizing Material Interfaces.
Intelligent Interface Engineering
Interfaces determine the performance of every engineered product, structure, and repair. These critical points—where two materials meet—often decide whether a system succeeds or fails. Intelligent Interface Engineering™ will give engineers the ability to develop critical solutions at these boundaries. Traditional engineering has often accepted interfaces as fixed limitations: metal cannot move with an elastomer, adhesives cannot reliably bond low-surface-energy polymers, and PTFE cannot form permanent connections with other materials. IIE™ rejects those assumptions. It transforms the interface into an engineering zone that engineers can deliberately design, program, and control to deliver the strength, flexibility, load transfer, chemical resistance, and long-term durability required by the application.
IIE opens enormous possibilities. Engineers can combine metals, polymers, elastomers, composites, fabrics, and advanced materials into integrated systems that use the best properties of each. By engineering how dissimilar materials interact, they can create combinations that conventional approaches made impractical or impossible. Across water and wastewater, mining, energy, transportation, aerospace, defense, marine operations, manufacturing, construction, medicine, and civil infrastructure, IIE can strengthen products, extend asset life, enable localized repairs, reduce replacement costs, conserve materials, and solve problems that adhesives, epoxies, welding, and mechanical connections cannot adequately address.

The Collaboration heard around the World
Tech-Bond Global LLC and the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad will build the scientific foundation of this emerging discipline together. Our researchers will investigate difficult material combinations, interface chemistry, Molecular Integration™, surface preparation, thermal effects, load transfer, fatigue, pressure resistance, chemical exposure, corrosion, wear, and long-term environmental durability. They will test HDPE, PTFE, metals, elastomers, engineered fabrics, and composites—both individually and in layered systems—under demanding real-world conditions.
This collaboration combines Tech-Bond’s years of development and field experience with IIT (ISM)’s research capabilities, engineering expertise, and independent testing resources. Together, we will do far more than validate existing technology. We will discover new material combinations, establish repeatable engineering methods, define performance standards, train the next generation of researchers and technicians, and build an expanding body of knowledge around the science of interfaces.
Intelligent Interface Engineering™ does more than improve material bonding. It changes how engineers think about materials. Instead of asking only what each material can accomplish independently, IIE asks what engineers can achieve when they intelligently integrate materials into a unified, high-performance system.

Founder’s Insight
One of the most important lessons I learned was that an interface doesn’t have to be accepted as it exists. It can be engineered.
Traditionally, engineers select materials based on their individual properties and then choose an adhesive to hold them together. Our research led us to think differently.
What if the interface itself became another engineering variable?
By understanding the characteristics of each material and intentionally engineering the interface between them, we can combine their strengths while minimizing their weaknesses. The interface becomes more than a boundary—it becomes an active contributor to the performance of the entire system.
I believe this is where the future of engineering is headed. Instead of simply joining materials together, we’ll increasingly design intelligent interfaces that produce specific, predictable outcomes.
