Water Depts & Businesses | Changing Economics of Infrastructures

Repair What Others Replace.

Municipalitues, water authorities, businesses and industries.

Many municipalities, water authorities and large businesses and industries maintain enormous inventories of pipes, tanks and infrastructure. When localized damage occurs, replacement isn’t always the only answer.

Find your problem below. See how Tech-Bond can help.

We will start with HDPE pipe and how our technologies are  changing the economics of pipe maintenance

A large HDPE pipe leaking from a long crack

We can engineer the repair to the application, selecting the appropriate Tech Patch or Tech Wrap configuration, size, and number of layers based on the substrate, damage, operating conditions, loads, and environmental exposure

TPRS™ applied to a large HDPE pipe in the form of a wrap with muliple layers

Intelligent Interface Engineering™ (IIE™) adds additional engineering tools that allow Tech Patches and Tech Wraps to be configured for more extreme environments, including demanding chemical, thermal, mechanical, pressure, and exposure conditions.

Tech Wraps on steel pipe - Changing the Economid

Damaged steel pipe: Corrosion, leaks, and repeated repairs turn aging steel pipelines into a continuing drain on maintenance budgets.

Repaired steel pipe: A complete TPRS™ Tech Wrap reinforces damaged steel pipe, protects against external corrosion, and reduces the cost of maintaining critical infrastructure.

Tanks, HDPE tanks, Steel tanks, etc., fail and are a cost driver. Tanks can be repaired.

Cracks, corrosion, and leaks threaten the service life of valuable polymer and metal storage tanks.

The tanks after they have been repaired.

Engineered TPRS™ repairs restore tank integrity, prevent leaks, and extend useful service life without costly replacement.

Repairing a damaged polymer or metal tank in place can potentially avoid 75% to 90% of replacement, installation, and downtime costs, depending on the application. TPRS™ creates a durable, multilayer repair using bonded PTFE-coated E-glass fabric engineered to withstand demanding mechanical and environmental conditions. Savings is an attitude.

Repair corrosion damage | With TPRS™, you can repair localized damage. Savings is an attitude!

Corrosion is "localized damage". TPRS™ repair s localized damage.

Severe corrosion has weakened the steel pipe, increasing maintenance costs and the risk of failure.

Localized Corrosion - repaired with TPRS™

A complete TPRS™ wrap reinforces the damaged section, protects it from further external corrosion, and extends the pipe’s useful service life.

Repair difficult shapes and connections.

Shapes and connections before repair

Damaged elbows, tees, and connections create repair challenges that conventional methods often cannot address.

Custom-shaped TPRS™ patches and wraps conform to difficult geometries, restoring integrity without replacing the assembly.

The methodology for solving on-site issues

Custom-shaped Tech Patches and Tech Wraps for elbows, tees, connectors, and other difficult configurations will not appear fully developed on day one. These engineered solutions will evolve through a collaborative partnership among the Tech-Bond Engineering Engagement Professional (EEP), the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), and each respective company.

The process begins by clearly defining the operational problem: where failures occur, what conditions cause them, and how existing repair methods fall short. The mining company provides practical field knowledge, the EEP translates operational challenges into engineering requirements, and IIT-ISM contributes research, testing, and technical validation. Together, this collaborative triangle can develop, refine, and expand a growing portfolio of solutions tailored to actual operating conditions for each respective company. The result is not simply a better repair—it is a more efficient, more reliable, and ultimately more profitable operation.

Bond difficult and/or dissimilar materials

Bonding Silicone rubber - to anything.

Bonding PTFE to steel. Bonding PTFE to steel overcomes one of industry’s most difficult material-interface challenges.

Bonding PTFE to steel - currently a significant challenge.

Bonding silicone rubber. Bonding silicone rubber to steel combines the structural strength of metal with the sealing, cushioning, and protective properties of an elastomer.

Bonding Dissimilar Materials

Bonding dissimilar materials allows engineers to combine properties that no single material can provide alone. Steel contributes structural strength, PTFE provides chemical resistance and low friction, elastomers absorb vibration and improve sealing, and polymers offer corrosion resistance and reduced weight. When these materials are successfully bonded, manufacturers and operators can create components, protective systems, and repairs specifically engineered for demanding operating conditions.

Tech-Bond’s patented Polymer Bonding Process and Intelligent Interface Engineering (IIE™) make these combinations possible by addressing the critical interface between materials, including differences in surface characteristics, mechanical loads, thermal movement, and environmental exposure. The result is improved performance, longer service life, reduced maintenance, and engineering possibilities that conventional adhesives and mechanical fasteners often cann

Training That Transforms Repair Capability

Tech-Bond’s training program gives maintenance personnel, contractors, technicians, and engineering teams the practical knowledge needed to apply our patented Polymer Bonding Process, the Tech Patch Repair System (TPRS™), and the principles of Intelligent Interface Engineering (IIE™). Our objective is not simply to demonstrate how a product works. We train participants to understand why repairs succeed, recognize the conditions that cause failures, and select the appropriate solution for each application.

Training begins with the fundamentals of material identification, surface preparation, bonding chemistry, and repair design. Participants learn how polymers, metals, elastomers, and other substrates respond differently to bonding processes and why successful repairs depend on properly preparing the interface between materials. This foundation helps technicians avoid common mistakes associated with conventional adhesives, temporary patches, and poorly designed repairs.

Hands-on instruction covers the installation of Tech Patches and Tech Wraps on pipes, tanks, connectors, and other industrial components. Trainees learn to evaluate damage, determine whether a localized patch or complete wrap is appropriate, select reinforcement layers, apply bonding agents correctly, and inspect the finished repair. When repairing cracks, training emphasizes the mandatory placement of a crack-stop hole at the end of each crack before reinforcement is installed.

The program also addresses practical operating conditions, including pressure, temperature, chemical exposure, vibration, corrosion, abrasion, and accessibility. Participants learn how these variables influence repair design and when a more advanced engineered solution should be developed through collaboration with a Tech-Bond Engineering Engagement Professional (EEP).

As our collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) advances, training materials and field procedures will continue to evolve alongside research, testing, and application development. This relationship supports the development of documented installation methods, practical job guides, instructional materials, and more sophisticated repair approaches tailored to actual industrial challenges.

Training can be coordinated for a company’s existing maintenance staff, independent service providers, contractors, or organizations seeking to develop their own internal repair capabilities. Depending on the application and project scope, instruction may include remote technical guidance, on-site demonstrations, supervised installations, and train-the-trainer programs designed to expand knowledge throughout an organization.

The long-term benefit extends beyond a single successful repair. Properly trained personnel can identify problems earlier, respond more effectively, reduce downtime, preserve valuable infrastructure, and help transform maintenance from a recurring financial burden into a more controlled and efficient operating process.

Have a Problem That Doesn’t Fit a Category?

Some of the most expensive operational problems do not fit neatly into established categories. An unusual material combination, a difficult connection, persistent corrosion, chemical exposure, or a component that cannot be replaced may require more than an off-the-shelf repair. If conventional products have failed or no obvious solution exists, the first step is not to force your problem into a category—it is to understand the problem itself.

Tech-Bond’s patented Polymer Bonding Process, the Tech Patch Repair System (TPRS™), and Intelligent Interface Engineering (IIE™) provide a foundation for developing solutions around your actual operating conditions. Our Engineering Engagement Professionals (EEPs) can work with your team and, when appropriate, research partners to evaluate the materials involved, identify the causes of failure, and explore an engineered approach. Your challenge may not have a ready-made answer today, but defining it correctly is often the beginning of a better solution tomorrow.
