Technologies of TPRS™, our Polymer Bonding Process and IIE™

IIE's Three Technologies

The Technologies Behind the Tech-Patch Repair System (TPRS™)

The Tech-Patch Repair System™ is not simply a patch, adhesive or collection of repair materials. It is a complete, multilayered repair architecture built upon two foundational technologies: our patented Polymer Bonding Process™ and the engineering principles of Intelligent Interface Engineering™. Each performs a different function. Together, they make it possible to create strong, durable repairs across metals, polymers, composites and other traditionally difficult-to-bond materials.

The Patented Polymer Bonding Process™

The Polymer Bonding Process™ is the enabling technology that allows different materials to be strongly and reliably joined. The Process combines specialized surface preparation, surface activation, proprietary Bonding Agents and controlled installation conditions to create and manage the interface between two materials.

Unlike conventional adhesives that may simply form a surface attachment, the Polymer Bonding Process is designed to establish a much stronger relationship between the Bonding Agent and the prepared substrates. It can be used with metals, HDPE and other polymers, rubber, PTFE-coated materials, ceramics, vinyl, leather, composites and many other commonly used substrates.

Within TPRS, the Polymer Bonding Process is not used only once. It creates the original bond to the damaged asset and is then used between the system’s functional layers. This allows the repair to perform as one integrated structure instead of as several unrelated materials placed on top of one another.

What it does: The Polymer Bonding Process creates the durable material interfaces that hold the entire repair architecture together.

Intelligent Interface Engineering™

Intelligent Interface Engineering™—IIE™—is the engineering discipline used to understand, design and control what happens where different materials meet. Every bonded assembly, coating, composite structure and multilayer repair depends upon its interfaces. Those interfaces are also where many conventional systems begin to separate, delaminate, leak or fail.

IIE examines the characteristics of each substrate, the demands of the operating environment and the role every material must perform. It considers differences in flexibility, surface energy, thermal expansion, chemical resistance, strength and movement. The objective is not merely to select strong materials; it is to engineer the relationships between those materials so that they function together.

Through IIE, materials that are normally considered difficult or incompatible can become complementary parts of the solution. A flexible material can absorb movement, a reinforcing material can supply strength, a filler can restore lost structure, and a protective outer layer can resist wear, moisture and chemical exposure. IIE determines how these capabilities should be combined and how every interface must be created and protected.

What it does: Intelligent Interface Engineering designs the complete material system and ensures that every layer and interface performs a defined engineering function.

The Tech-Patch Repair System™

The Tech-Patch Repair System™ is the practical repair platform that puts the Polymer Bonding Process and Intelligent Interface Engineering to work. TPRS can be used to repair and reinforce pipes, tanks, vessels, process equipment and structural components manufactured from metal, HDPE and other difficult-to-repair materials.

Depending upon the application, the TPRS architecture can incorporate the patented Polymer Bonding Process, multiple layers of PTFE-coated E-glass reinforcement, engineered Poly Fill™, additional Polymer Bonding Process interfaces and a final Poly Shield™ protective system. Each component contributes a specific capability:

  • The Polymer Bonding Process establishes and controls the bond between materials.
  • PTFE-coated E-glass supplies reinforcement, structural containment and durability.
  • Poly Fill restores damaged or missing material and creates an engineered structural layer.
  • Poly Shield provides the repair with an additional protective surface against moisture, corrosion, chemicals and operational wear.

Because TPRS is an engineered system, its construction can be adapted to the substrate, type of damage, operating environment and performance requirements of the application. Repairs can often be completed in place, reducing the need to remove and replace large assets, interrupt production or undertake extensive reconstruction.

What it does: TPRS converts Tech-Bond’s underlying bonding and interface technologies into a complete field-deployable repair solution.

How the Technologies Work Together

Intelligent Interface Engineering determines how the materials should work together. The patented Polymer Bonding Process creates and controls the critical bonds between those materials. The Tech-Patch Repair System brings them together in a practical, multilayered repair architecture.

IIE™ designs the system. The Polymer Bonding Process creates the interfaces. TPRS™ delivers the repair.

Together, these technologies provide the foundation for repairing, reinforcing and protecting critical assets across business, industrial, government and consumer markets. Supported by nearly ten years of laboratory, third-party, field and application testing, they have produced a success rate approaching 100 percent when the prescribed preparation and installation procedures are correctly followed.

It’s time for the world to catch up.

Validated Globally. Proven in Practice. Ready for Adoption.

Every core Tech-Bond technology—including the patented Polymer Bonding Process™, the Tech-Patch Repair System™ and the principles underlying Intelligent Interface Engineering™—has been subjected to extensive testing and validation over nearly a decade. Our technologies have been evaluated by leading universities and research institutions, respected engineering organizations, industrial companies and government users across multiple countries and operating environments. They have been tested in laboratories under controlled conditions and proven in the field under pressure, heat, corrosion, aging, mechanical stress and demanding real-world service conditions.

Years of field experience indicate that a properly constructed Tech-Bond interface does more than create a strong bond. It appears to prevent the moisture pathways required for under-interface corrosion. Laboratory testing has produced results consistent with that experience; continuing validation will determine the duration, limits and full significance of the protection.

The results have been consistent across materials, applications and geographic boundaries: strong bonds, durable interfaces and repairs that continue to perform. This is no longer simply a theory, a laboratory possibility or an unproven product claim. The evidence has been generated, the performance has been demonstrated and the technologies have been validated around the world. In the laboratory, in the field and across the world, Tech-Bond technologies are proven. Now is time for the world to catch up. The world needs it. The world’s finances demand it.

 The Universe awaits

We still have much to learn, and continued testing will remain essential. What we already know, however, is that our technologies are grounded in the established laws of chemistry and physics. When the prescribed processes are followed, the underlying chemical reactions occur reliably, and the performance results achieved in laboratory testing and field applications have been remarkably consistent. We believe that consistency will continue, although broader independent testing and long-term field validation must confirm it. If these characteristics continue to hold across different materials, applications, and environments, the potential benefits—to industry,
