In the Tech-Bond system, the bonding agent — available as SI Blue, SI Black, or SI Green — is the material that creates the bond. However, Tech-Bond's approach goes beyond sticking: it uses a Polymer Bonding Process to chemically crosslink surfaces at the molecular level, producing a permanent structural bond rather than a surface-level adhesion.

Natural adhesives include substances like tree resin, natural rubber latex, starch, casein (milk protein), and beeswax. While effective for certain applications, natural adhesives typically lack the strength, chemical resistance, and durability required for industrial polymer bonding. Tech-Bond's engineered bonding agents are designed to outperform both natural and standard synthetic adhesives on demanding substrates.

The three primary adhesive types are: (1) Structural adhesives, which provide high-strength permanent bonds for load-bearing applications; (2) Pressure-sensitive adhesives, which bond on contact without curing; and (3) Reactive adhesives, such as Tech-Bond's SI Bonding Agents, which cure through a chemical reaction — in this case, a patented polymer crosslinking process for permanent molecular bonds.

Gluing relies on surface-level adhesion where two parts are held together by the adhesive layer. Bonding, as used in Tech-Bond's Polymer Bonding Process, involves molecular crosslinking at the substrate surface itself — creating a chemical union between materials. This results in bonds that are typically stronger than the original material, especially on polymers like PTFE and HDPE.

Tech-Bond offers three viscosity options: SI Blue (thin-medium, standard general-purpose use), SI Black (thick, for high-control precision and overhead applications), and SI Green (ultra-thin, specifically engineered to wick into hairline cracks). Select based on your gap size, surface orientation, and the level of application control required.

Yes — for low surface energy polymers such as PTFE, HDPE, nylon, silicone rubber, and polypropylene, applying Poly Prep (Adhesion Promoter) before bonding is essential. This solvent-based etchant micro-textures the polymer surface, dramatically increasing bond strength. For metals and composites, surface cleanliness is critical and an Activator/Accelerator may also be required.
